    Latly i've been getting alot of blue screens of death saying windows temporarly cannot read from hard drive.

    I'd like a good program to check my disk to see if it's going to die because this unit is still under warrenty until october but i need to back up my outlook files

    If it is a Maxtor download their PowerMax Diags... both basic and indepth diagnostics.

    Ideally check with the manufacturer of the drive.... most off the shelf products will do surface scans but you need to look at the drive components and the mfg diags will do that better than anything else.

    Make sure you HD cable is working right & plugged in securely.
