Ok guys, if some other members just got their DVD DL burner and would like to try their DL discs, don't make the same mistake I did:
I wanted to backup a DVD9 with a (real expensive) DVD+R DL. I did what I would do with a DVD5: I inserted the original and ripped an ISO with DVD Decrypter. Then I burned the ISO on my DVD+R DL, still with DVD Decrypter...and now I've got a very expensive coaster.
I still have to try Nero. What do you guys (with a DVD DL burner) use to burn your DVD+R DL discs?

I definitely won't be getting a DL burner anytime soon, but I'm curious what went wrong. Did you get an error from DVD Decryptor or did it burn as normal and the disk just not work?
-
Actually yeah, everything went fine. DD burnt my DVD+R9 in about 40 min.
I tried in PowerDVD: nothing...
I checked Windows Explorer: 0 bytes on the DVD-R...
I tried in my stand alone player (Toshiba) and the disc doesn't even load either...
Hope I'm gonna have more luck with Nero. -
According to what I've read here and in other places, and what I was able to figure out myself, there is an issue with DL disks, on where to place the layer brake.
If you try to author a DL DVD Video with Scenarist, a whole set of issues arise on which files to place on each layer and how to navigate between the layers.
I think that all this information is lost when the DVD is ripped.
I believe that a new version of DVD Decrypter will need to be created to handle ripping for DL recording.
I also think that if an authoring program like DVD-Lab is used to create a DVD Video and the total content exceeds 4.36 Gb, recording the authored files on to a DL disk will most likely result in a coaster.
I also will not buy a DL recorder until the whole situation matures, media becomes available and s/w to record on them is available as well.
BTW, has anyone heard anything about DL RW disks? It will cost a fortune to experiment with R disks. The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -
How about authoring in DVD Maestro (or whatever), creating the VIDEO_TS folder (still with DM) and then record the DVD using Nero (which supports DL discs)?
I will try, but you're right about RW media though, and I have NOT heard a single thing about that...

I would rip it with decrypter and then burn it with copy to dvd vso software the emperor got it to work that way at cdr info's site. Why bother making an iso image anyway?Originally Posted by Will BaileyJames B Elder

what about running ANYDVD and just use nero to copy????? i do that with movies that are less than 4.3 gigs and it works.
