Hi, I was wondering how many of you edit files in mpeg2? I've read that you should not edit mpeg files. However AVI files are a little to big for me to work with. I would like to do intro's, titling, cutting, transitions and music. Do any of you do this much with mpeg files and how does it work?

large amounts of editing in MPEG requires re-encoding inside your editing app. they're as good at encoding as a standalone program.

Try converting your mpeg to DV or Huffyuv. DV is 13gigs an hour and huffyuv will be about 20, depending on your soure.

I've done some, but I find it harder to get clean cuts on the correct frame, due to the compression in mpeg files. If you're just doing titles, intro movies, etc., you're only going to deal with relatively small pieces of video - do rough cuts in mpeg format, and then convert those clips to .avi for fine editing.
