Please forgive me if this has already been answered but I had a quick question. I am trying to edit just the video but keep the audio in some scenes of a movie. I can clip the scenes just fine but can't seem to find a way to have just a black screen but keep the audio rolling. What software package do I need in order to do this as simply as possible and how? My source is a 1.36gb AVI file.
Thanks

You can use the new Virtualdub to do this.
Under Video > Filters, choose the Fill filter (black is default color) and select Blend. Under View, choose Curve Editor and everywhere that you want to insert a black section, you'll have to set the curve. There are instructions on how to do this in the Help Files.
If the AVI is already compressed, you can select Video > Compression > Full Processing Mode and select the codec that was used to compress the AVI (if XviD, choose Unrestricted, Single Pass with a Quantizer of 4 which is default for the XviD codec). Under Video, choose Smart Render and the AVI will only be recompressed where the Filter Curve was used. The rest of the AVI will be Direct Stream Copied.
