Ive tried everything guys , search the forums too , for some reason i get no sound in Tmpgenc when converting a XVID to Mpeg , yet i can play it fine in Windows media player with sound so i must have the codecs , even tried the program that tells you if you have the correct codecs for playing , and it says i do ,

So why is Tmpgenc not seeing the sound only video ???

  2. i had this problem, what you need 2 do is download a program calles virtualDub. Then open up the file in2 that and extract the audio file as wav. to do this u must go 2 file then save audio as wav... when you have done this open up tmpgenc and change the audio source to the wav file you have just extracted.

  4. You could open the same file in TMPGEnc but without the AVI Readers.

You can temporarily disable the plugins in "Option / Evironmental Settings / VFAPI" tab.

    Then Uncheck the AVI readers.

Then load your file into TMPGEnc.

Your file should play through TMPGEnc the same way it plays through Windows Media Player.

  5. So are u saying that disabling the avi readers can sort out the autosync problem with TMPGEnc?

  6. I'm saying that TMPGEnc can use a similar method to read the file as is used by Windows Media Player. (DirectShow)

TMPGEnc has an order by which it attempts to read a source file. The first choice in the list is AVI Reader. If you disable it, TMPGEnc will be forced to try another method, and will keep trying the different "Readers" till it finds one that will work. (see the one called DirectShow Multimedia Reader?)

What i'm suggesting is that if the source file will play correctly through DirectShow in Windows Media Player, then it might load through DirectShow in TMPGEnc.

Does the file playback acceptably in Windows Media Player?

The source file might have some damage to it and that could be the reason for the difficulty.
VirtualDub is designed to work with AVI's, and can better deal with errors. TMPGEnc is made to encode MPEG's, but it also reads AVI's. It doesn't deal with AVI errors nearly as well as VirtualDub does. The prevoius suggest to use VirtualDub to frameserve is a valid option. I'm just giving you another choice.

I'm not saying that this is the correct way to do it, i'm saying this is another way to do it.

OR Make sure the 'direct show multimedia file reader ' has a priority of 2 and moves to the top of the list.
Also sync problems can often be caused by bad frames . You should use virtualdub mp3 freeze to scan for bad frames and remove any before conversion.

I just temprarily disable the AVI reader so i don't have to remember the default order of the filters.......but yep, same idea. I'm guessing the file was just damaged.

  10. Ok I just thought I'd ask I'm looking to buy a good avi encoder and I tried TEMPGEnc demo and had nothing but problems with audio sync, I eventually gave up on it I know TEMPGEnc is highly rated in the encoding community but for some1 with as much knowledge on the subject as me it left too much guesswork for myself, I'm trying canopus ProCoder at the moment which seems a lot more user friendly and lets me do a sample first before finally commiting to burning a disc.

  11. The encoder you should use is the one that works best for you.

  12. For sure I feel like I should be drawn to TEMPGEnc but there's just so many probs I experiance with it, the audio prob has got to be the biggest bugbear there is and why they hav'nt done anything to sort it seems strange, most video editing and encoding sites I visit have tons and tons of info on TEMPGEnc audio sync problems all of which is supposed to be sorted out by using audiodub to extract wav files then using these, although in my short experiance doing this actually makes it worse, for example TEMPGEnc encoding audio = very slight but noticeable audio sync problem/ extract wav with audiodub and use to encode with TEMPGEnc= 2 fields and a dyke out of audio sync.
I have to say that I don't know enough to criticise though if I was making one of the best video encoding pieces of software there is and was trying to sell it to a big market and got so much problems with the audio I would be seriously considering doing something about it, most ppl just want to pick which type of file to output, hit the button and go to bed to get upto a dvd or svcd, the weird thing about it is what TEMPGEnc says should solve the problem is different to what actual users of the software say u should do, how weird is that?
    Anyway I will battle on
