  1. ok here seems to be my problem.
I have 2 dvd burners 1 is a hp 300n internal that only does dvd +r and then I also have a lite-on 815s that is supposed to do both. but i have a 25 pack of verbatim dvd-r that says different. Basically out of 25 i burned 6 that work. The rest after trying in nero or dvd decrypter to burn the iso file it errors out right away. I am not sure what it means but i will list the error below. one other thing i forgot to mention is that i have for the dvd -r they are a plan verbatim where the dvd +r is also verbatim but is the "Digital Movie" dvd +r media which has the little movie reel looking thing for a label.

"the semaphore time out period has expired"
this is what i get after like 20 seconds or so of time burning. any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!!!

Are you using a trial version of NERO BURN? need more info like how is the LITEON drive hooked up in your pc? Have you updated your firmware on both dvd burners? You may want to update the firmware on your LITEON drive. Try defragging your "C" drive before you burn dvds. Use DVDINFO PRO to check the actual manufacturer of those VERBATIM DVD-R discs you're using.

  4. Well the lite-on is hooked up by USB to my pc and i have not updated the firmware on it. I only seem to have problems every other time. It is a little hard to explaine. i have iso images and try to burn them with either nero or with dvd decrypter. and both error out. with nero 6 full ver it says a reset happened. with dvd decrypter it has the message from my first post. can anyone help me with this. and the internal burner i have is a hp 200n is what it says.

you may want to hook up by FIREWIRE instead. for some reason FIREWIRE has better compatibility with dvd burners than USB. I would suggest updating the firmware on the LITEON drive first. Then try hooking it up via FIREWIRE. Is the LITEON drive in a USB enclosure?

  6. The drive is in a usb enclosure. is there anyway of a firware update or something to get the hp drive to do -r media? Also I keep finding all of these different sites that have the firwareupdates but which would be the best as I do not want to mess it up. I am sure that it all woyuld be ok but I am new the the whole DVD burnin thing but have worked on pc's as a technician for a few year before what i am currently doing.

    thanks

  9. How did you set the DVD drive? Did you set it to master or cable?

Also you can try to udpate the USB 2.0 driver.

A lot of people have the same problem. I think the problem is caused by poor USB 2.0 chip set in the enclosure.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the burning software or media or driver.

  10. ok...well I hope that this give me a little direction as to what to do. I think my size 12 to the side of this hp drive should help because i know how to flash devices and it did not work. and now i am just loosing dved -r media from my external drive. I also can not seem to find any type of firmware update for the external drivce or any updates to the firmware for the usb chipset on this hp a535w

thanks for all of the info
