I have no probs converting avi to dvd apart from the ones with 23.976 fps. I can use tmpgencoder to convert to mpeg1 but I want svcd or dvd format. So is it better to convert them as they are or should I change the frame rate? Am I right in thinking that it is best to convert audio & video separately?
I can convert the video in virtualdub but I have to stop after a few minutes or the end result will bee about 100gig! So there is obviously something I need to set in virtualdub to correct this but what?
If anyone can point me in the right direction to convert a 23.976fps avi to mpeg 2 then thanks ......

Just convert it in tmpgenc as normal, with no framerate conversion, then when finished run the .m2v file through pulldown.exe to make it 29.97. Easy and fast.

thanks thor.. the problem is that the resulting mpeg has a slight skip every second when converting from a 23.976fps avi (seems a common problem ). Is this a problem that pulldown will cure?

Are you encoding to 29.9 from your 23.9 source ?Originally Posted by tommid

All the avi files are fine. I have tried several encoders and they all end up with the same flawed result.
