  1. I recently bought the Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB-2, installed it, and got it goin. It was working great until I realized a problem:

I cannot surf on the internet now. I click the IE icon, type in the name, password, etc and connect. It then dials the number. If I pick up the phone I can confirm that it is online, yet it just shows me that Error page and won't connect to the web. I also cannot log onto AIM. I was just wonderin if anyone had similar experience and/or knew how i could fix it.

I am assuming that it is the WinTV because I was online earlier today, then I got the WinTV, but now when I log on this happens. I have already restarted my computer, too.

Any help or suggestions guys? Much appreciated if you'd get back to me

You have various hardware / software conflicts there, winTV simply happend and show them. It is like the chaos theory in a way.

I bet that this won't sound like an advice or a good reply, but this is what I do when those things pop up: Format C:
I mean, I have a CD with the OS and a second with all the programs I need to install. So, this takes about 2 - 2.30 hours at most, which is really faster than waiting to solve an issue, asking for it and try various other things. I used to do this, years before, but I realise how much time I save that way, that never look back to "solve" conflicts. So, when I don't solve a problem easy in 10 minutes, I schedgule a "Format C:" the next day. Always I solve any problem that way.

Well it looks like you must have had some programs running when you did the install.

    You could try re-installing IE.

Some general rules to follow when installing new SW.

    1. Backup your system (I use Norton Ghost). So if you mess things up you can recover.
    2. Close all programs. Use something like EndItAll.
    3. Stop your antivirus SW.
    4. Unless you are an expert with the SW use the install defaults.
    5. Before installing defrag the HD.
    6. Before installing run a registry cleanup program such as RegClean.
    7. Never re-install over a piece of SW always Uninstall first.

One thing to be careful of - The Hauppauge SW installs its own special USB 2.0 drivers. Some other SW such as Windows XP patches or service packs may overwrite the Hauppauge drivers resulting in very poor performance in WinTv2000. So, you should re-install the Hauppauge drivers after such operations.

I have been using the WinTv USB PVR for many years and get very good results.
