i bought a hauppauge wintv hvr-950q a few months ago. i mostly use it to record HD tv shows and what-not, and i love the quality i get with those. but there are some SD cable shows i like to record once in a while, and i also have some old vhs tapes i would like to convert. but the problem is, the only option wintv gives me for recording analog video is either SVCD mpg, or DVD 6000 mpg. but, ive tried recording in both settings, then looked at the resulting video, and it is the same resolution, same bitrate. and i must say, the quality is not that great. i know the quality from vhs isnt going to be great, but i would assume the quality from analog tv would be better. i mean, i can download a tv episode or sporting event and the quality is much better than i can capture off of the same cable feed.
so is there any other software i can use to capture say, uncompressed avi? i have already tried beyondtv and that sage software, but they would not work with my capture card.
