You can use ssrc as external sampling frequency converter with TMPG and its batch encode mode.
You can also use the ssrc with the Azid_Lame GUI.

  4. okay, so I'm using smpx.. the default quality setting is 20.. is this suitable? i can slide it all the way up to 100.. but i don't know... is 20 normal?

  5. 20 is fine, 100 takes a very very long time (my P3 750 1.5 hour movie = 3hours +).

Note that SCMPX does a good job, but SSRC is faster. I tend to use ssrc and if that fails try SCMPX (plus it looks really nasty).

  7. Here's a quick one for you:

-Open GUI> press SSRC button (right, over batch mode)
-At the top are three boxes for file locations, press the open folder button at the top and browse to where SSRC is, the next one is your input file to browse to that, the one after that is output choose a name and location for your save.
    -Set sampling rate to 44100
    -Tick perform 2 pass encoding
    -Click convert wav
