  1. Is Memorex a Cheap "second hand" media or is it a good media for less money?
Never argue with idiots, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

I use Memorex +R 4X media with code RICOHJPN01. This is one of the best on the market. The price is normal (not cheap and not such expensive like others with the same media code).

    Just PERFECT!

  4. Hmmmm....

I've used about 100 memorex 4x dvd-r's and have had over 95% success rate. (the only times it failed was when I was trying a new method or experimenting with compatabillity on older set-top dvd players.

But I've been very pleased with these discs JMO

The Memorex CMCMAG -R's work perfectly fine on my Pioneer A05 and NEC 1300A. I wish they were still PRODISC.SO3's which worked fine even in my BTC 1004IM. I really feel safer buying from a local retailer rather than bulk from the internet anyway. Keep in mind that almost any manufacturer has put several different oem disks in there packages, Imation, Memerex, Fugi, ect. I like to think they require grade a material however.

  7. Out of 100. I've had about 7 coasters from the Memorex White Inkjet Printables 4X (RICOHJPN). NOT BUYING THEM AGAIN.

  8. To me they're garbage.

    I had a 5 pack of -R's, and they

    1.) had a 40% failure rate
2.) ruined my E50. I had to take it back and get a new one.

I wouldn't give them to a dog to play catch with...

I had about 30% failure rate with Memorex 4x DVD-R in jewel cases.

Their 4X discs have been pure shit for me, but not their High-Speed CD-RWs with the blue jewel-case inserts. Those discs have been flawless since the first one I purchased. I must have 200 of them and not a problem yet.

Sam Ontario mentions he has a 30% failure rate with his Memorex DVD-R discs. I've got him beat hands-down. I'll post the final numbers once they're tabulated, but I'm looking at 60% failure rate.

Memorex Cool Colors CD-R are actually one of my discs of choice for music and data. Never a bad burn, though the reflectivity is not great (my laptop will not read it). I have a small stash of really old Verbatim and Pioneer CD-R for my laptop and picky CD player.

Stay away from the Memorex -R. Most of the people have problem with Memorex -R, not +R.

    I've experienced quite the opposite.

Memorex 4x +R CMC = Shit at least on my burner. Lite-On LDW-451S

I just went through a 25 pk of Memorex -R's (Prodisc) and have had 1 coaster out of 25 I went out and bought another pack of 50 (Prodisc) and the first one failed. When I looked at the disc, it had a 1/4" scratch towards the end!!! It was straight out of the pack and not my doing. I'll just write it off as being damaged in transit. I will stick to them as long as they're reliable.

After 200 burns, I have no coaster with my HP 300e &Khypermedia burners using Memorex 4X +R. They also work with the Imation 4X +R too.

  15. No problem with Memorex DVD-R 4X on a Lite-On 451S. 15 burns no problem. $50.00 gets you a 50 pack of -R or +R at Best Buy after a $30.00 INSTANT REBATE!

Memorex +R 4x CMC = Excellent (on my NEC ND-2500A)

Although there are quite a few dissindents apropos of the CMC media here, you will find that in other communities, such as cdfreaks, there are proponents. Hell, my CMC burns are better than my RicohJPNR01 burns.

So for me TDK, Maxell, Imation, Memorex 4x DVD+R's are a win-win situation. I couldn't care if I got CMC or Ricoh. They both burn excellent and I have yet to burn a coaster. Don't get me started on Ritek and all the coasters i have made there. YMMV, so don't start flaming.

    Cheers.

Just got a new system with a Plextor 708A Burner and used Memorex DVD-R 4X for my first two DVD's. No problems encountered.

My only experience has been with a 25 pack of +RW 2.4X and they are CRAP. My Plextor 708A is able to burn them "sometimes" but even then I get occasional pixelation and audio popping noise. My complete burn failure rate so far has been 5 of 10. All 5 of the complete burns have some sort of problem (mostly minor).

The media code (DVDInfoPro) is INFODISCA01

Fortunately I only paid $19.95 for the 25 spindle so it's not a huge loss. Just frustrating. I'll stick with Maxell, Verbatim, TDK.

Send 'em to me! My burner loves those discs.

  20. I have a spindle of Memorex 4x -R

    they are PRODISCS03

I bought a Lite On 811s and couldn't get a good burn unless it was burned at 2x, even then the movies would skip in my component player.

I returned the burner for a Plextor PX-708A, and it burns the memorex discs at 4x, and so far they all play perfectly in my player. I say so far cause I've only burned a few...

I had the exact same problem with my 451s... It turned them into coasters. I just got my 812s yesterday and burned a couple disks.. Both of them burned amazingly... PI was under 10, PO was under 6....

See that is why, I don't always want to fault the media. Sometimes the firmware just doesn't specify good write strategies.

Anyhow, this media is certainly better than a lot of junk. No names etc.

    Cheers.

  25. Memorex 4x DVD+R=Bad Media for sure.
Out of a pack of 25, I had six successful burns with a brand new TDK 840G.
I bought a cake of 25 Fuji 4X DVD+R from Best Buy for $29.99, with $5 rebate, and have burned flawlessly. They're Richohs.
Also, bought two packs of 15 Maxell DVD-R from Office Depot...no problems there either.
Bottom line: www.nomorecoasters.com is right on target IMO...CMCs are landfill material

  26. @realdeech,

What CMC media code are you getting on those Memorex DVD+Rs?

I just bought some last night at Wal-Mart and they're still Ricoh discs in this area...
