Hello, I just purchased a 50-pack of memorex 8x DVD-Dl's, burnt one, and then checked the MC#.

It is RITEK S04 and I was gonna use Videohelp's media section to put in a review and add some info but unfortunately memorex isn't listed as a brand for this media code.

Could an admin please update the media section?

    Thanks. 8)

Oops, looks like you accidentally selected DVD+RW instead of DVD+R.

Actually it's Both* -It says 'DVD+R' but under that there's an "RW" icon.

What does this mean, is this different than a 'DVD+RW' ?

*Or are "DVD+R's" automatically "RW" by definition?

Maybe you need to post a photo of what you've got because there is no such thing as DVD+RW DL, which is what you seem to think you have. Yes, DVD+R and DVD+RW are NOT the same. DVD+RW discs can be erased and reused. DVD+R discs are write once - they cannot be erased.

Technically DVD+RW DL does exist, but only in laboratories. The discs have never been released to the public and probably never will be. My best guess is that they have too many errors in the manufacturing process to be financially viable and there was a dirty little secret that these discs would require brand new burners to write to them and such burners aren't on the market. Whatever you have is either DVD+R DL or DVD+RW. I would bet your house that you have DVD+RW or single layer DVD+R because NOBODY sells 50 packs of DL discs. NOBODY. Thanks for trying to help, but you could really do everyone here a big favor if you could figure out exactly what you have. Please look at the discs themselves which will be stamped either DVD+R DL or DVD+RW or DVD+R and update the info once you have correctly identified what you have.

Actually that RW in a rounded rectangle is just the logo of the DVD+RW Alliance, which created the +R standards. The disc type is usually above or below the logo.

    Oh really?

Than I suppose I must have a magic burner to have been able to successfully copy 8.5 gigabytes of data to 4 discs.

That discs is a DVD+R DL. There is no such thing as a DVD+RW DL right now, and may never be. All RW Alliance media comes with the [RW] logo on the disc, including DVD+RW and DVD+R. But the disc types are usually written plainly on the disc, such as DVD+R DL being on this one.

I've never seen branded DL media in 50-packs either, but I know that Verbatim has inkjet DL media in 50-packs. So don't be too hard on jman98. Although I have to say that Memorex package does look to be Photochopped, the DL looks fake. Then again, we are talking Memorex, so it just as easily could be a crappy print job on the packaging.

At any rate, Memorex is a crappy brand, and Ritek is a horrible DVD+R DL disc. If you want a good disc, buy Verbatim and ONLY Verbatim.

    OK.

Sorry jman98, I didn't mean to make you feel bad. But it is always a good idea to keep an open mind and not assume you know everything about something, scepticism and flexibility are part of the scientific method.

I doubt it, the packaging it came in looked and felt like a genuine artical...

Plus, what could it have been photocopied from?

The closest I can google is this:

    and mine looked like this:

Plus I found an Official-looking store selling the same item.
