  1. ok, i used virtualdub to capture an avi in huffyuv
and because the capture card wasn't showing the video properly, i told it to crop (!!!) thinking that it would still fill the frame size.
it did not, it made a new frame size (346x240)

now, i have an avi that plays fine in media player

but when i try to edit it (vdub, or tmpgenc) to re-encode to divx or mpg, it shits itself! frames are tilted at a 30 degree counterclockwise angle, and have no color =(

any method of fixing it to edit it?

  2. Change the playback settings for HUFFYUV (it's where you set up it's compression). Try decompress as RGB, swap fields and such. Do all your editing in vdub and frameserve.

Just another tip, when cropping interlaced stuff make sure you keep the top crop amount to even numbers, odd numbers can screw up the field order.. so take care.

  3. Remember that virtual dub is very powerful, and like all powerful stuff it requires careful use, if you crop in vdub it will change the framesize, because it assumes that if you want to keep the framesize you'll use the resize filter afterwards (so you can change the aspect ratio OR letterbox it, both are done with the resize filter). It truly is a gorgeous program, just be very thorough in setting up your cap.

  4. no luck, there's only one true setting, and that's decode RGB as YUV2 or something to that effect. (the setting that makes it no longer lossless)

well, if virtualdub changed the frame size, why is it trying to open it as other than a 346x240? it appears that it "thinks" the frame size is different, when vdub is the only program i used to even touch the avi
