  1. I'm using Potplayer with MadVR which I configured using this guide

    http://imouto.my/configuring-potplayer-for-gpu-accelerated-video-playback-with-dxva-or...ware-decoding/

The issue is that very dark parts of videos lose their detail and sharpness and sort of has this blurry look to it. Anyone know how I can fix this?

  2. It's probably like that because the filmmaker and colorist graded it like that. Dark areas are not supposed to be perfectly clear or visible

You can calibrate your monitor , software, or drivers differently if you want, raise the gamma or brightness

  3. Here's another screenshot that better displays the problem.

  4. what is the original source? where is it from ?

what makes you think this is a display issue ?

To me , this looks like a 2nd or 3rd generation video - there is no grain , everything is smooth

Judging from your capped JPG, your black detail exists below black level (digital level 16, zero on this waveform monitor).

This condition is known as "crushed blacks". For 8 bit digital video, black level is 16 and nominal white is 235. White clipping should be at 255. Any black detail below 16 is not seen.

Explain the method you used to capture these frames.

I used print screen. Frame capturing doesn't seem to work with MadVR and Potplayer.

Thanks for the info. I went into MadVR's settings and changed the RGB output levels from 0-255 to 16-235 and everything looks great now. No more crushed blacks.
