  1. I was given some home burnt dvd-r movies but I cannot play them on my PC or my standalone dvd player. I believe it is because the discs are not finalized. How can I finalize the discs? Which software to use?

    Thanks.

  2. Thank you. I have tried it but I got "I/O Error!". Is there any other way around it?

    Thanks.

are you sure anything is burned to that disc? because

I cannot play them on my PC
either indicates there's nothing on the disc or you
didn't do a DVD VIDEO but a incorrect BURN MODE (iso DATA? maybe)
A non-finalized DVD VIDEO SHOULD PLAY FINE ON THE COMPUTER
(do you have AUDIO & VIDEO_TS's on the disc you didn't say?)
because maybe its just a region thing also

if there really is data burned to the disc try another finalizing tool
Try closing it with the ROXIO TOOL...

  11. Thanks. I don't have Roxio Easy CD Creator. Can I use Nero? If so, how?

Thanks so much for all the helps.

  12. Thanks but I can't use the download software because it's an upgrade version. I ran to patch one (the 2nd link) without realising, do I need to uninstall it?

    Thanks.

to finalize with nero you simply open a new compilation (do not use the wizard, use the classical interface). then go to the multisession header and choose continue multisession disk. then go to the burn header and choose write and finalize dvd options.
finally press write and all should be good.

i hope this answered your question

    Hhmmm,
I'm not so sure about that solution.
First of all. I'm having a bitch of a problem getting Nero to finalize any DVD-R burns--MultiMeda, Data, Backup or otherwise. I don't have this problem with DVD-RW media. Once I burn to DVD-R not only will Nero not verify anything successfully but NOTHING will read that media.

Anyway, I'm not sure what version of Nero the above solution would work with. In Version 6.3.16--which is what I'm using--You first of all can only choose to continue a multisession for certain ISO type DATA burns. Secondly, near as I can tell, NERO will not let you "continue" a multisession out of thin air. It wants to know what session you're continuing FROM and it wants proof in the form of the previous multisession media.

As a matter of fact, NERO is SUPPOSED to finalize all DVD burns that are NOT Multisession. I'm not sure if this "failure to finalize" thing is a bug specific to NERO and specific to NERO with DVD-R media but if anyone has any more information please share it.

In the meantime I'll delve into ULEAD, SONY, Pinnacle, and a bunch of other burning software Apps I have to see if how they handle the situation.

    Edited to ADD:
This does NOT seem to be a problem specific to NERO. No DVD burning software that I possess is working any better. I guess I'll sacrifice one more DVD-R blank Disk and open my XP partition --I've been using Win2000. That should rule an OS gone bad.
