  1. i dont know why my svcd still stutters after hours of trial and error. i've tried different settings and still none worked. my friend however let me borrow his svcd's to play in my standalone player and it doesn't stutter at all. we're using the same media for our cd-rs. is there a possible way to check the settings of his svcd? what its bitrate is and its settings in tmpgenc?

  2. Although DVDPatcher is for header patching purpose, but it also tells you what type of file you have. Including the bit rates, Palor NTSC..etc.

VCD max bit rate should be 11500
SVCD max bit rate should be 25200
Anything over would cause problem. ( Like stutters)

Running other apps while encoding also will give you problems.
Especially with older computers e.g. Pent III...

  4. Your best bet would be to have your friend save their TMPGenc settings to a file, e-mail or sneakernet them to your machine, and check ALL the settings. Or just go look at them. Also compare source material and all other processing steps.

You're trying to compare the OUTPUT of the black box when the actual internal workings plus the input are available to compare and study.

  6. I have an 3.06 P-IV hyperthread computer, and I'd shut down all other running programs when I encode. I suggest you to do the same with yours.

Also, make sure your hard drive is defraged and have plenty of spaces.

  7. so if you use your computer while encoding, it's going to cause stuttering?

  8. By no mean I'm an expert whatsoever, I'm still learning myself.
But one thing I do know from my past experience is, if more apps are using the cpu at the same time, it would cause drop frames, audio sync problems while encoding.

This may not be the sole reason for your result disc stutter problem,
like I said before, make sure your HHD is defragged, and have few gigs
    of empty hard drive space.

No. Doing other things only causes your computer to slow down, it does not affect the quality (despite what some people may say). And dropped frames only applies to captured video.

The stuttering is caused by one of your settings. Are you matching the frame rate of your source to your output file?
