ps2 protection

this is just out of curiousity more or less... if sony really wanted to make their games copy protected wouldnt they use dual layer dvd's and fill them with junk files or even extras to make it impossible to just straight copy it to a single layer like everybody can do now... i can understand the extra cost in doing this, but would pretty much make it impossible to make a backup copy of a ps2 game right? or does sony just not seeing the cost being worth it, and everything works out good how it is now? or am i just wrong on all thee above? any opinions?

If they did that, people could rip out the dummy files and make the games fit a standard DVD-R. If you make it, people in the PS2 scene will rip it. MGS2 Substance, Xenosaga, and Champions of Norrath (The only 3 DVD-9 games in America) have been ripped to multiple DVD's. Its an uphill battle for Sony and would only slow down game releases on the net by about a day or two if that.
