I've started using ritek dvd-rs with this purple die which claims to help the laser read the disk better....but I've noticed weird problems with my burner lately....get a lot of burning failed, or dvd is not blank (when it is).
And when I try to go through my computer to verify the disk is blank, it seems to run & run & run...but never opens the dvd... So I wondered if anyone had any opinions on these products with the ink & if that could be the root of the problem.
Tech support thinks its a software problem and I should uninstall, but I just don't want to go there. Any thoughts? Thanks.

The colour of the dye makes no difference whatsoever. The player / recorder does not "see" like you do. The dye colour issue is a myth, especially where DVD's are concerned.
Why are you trying to verify a disc as being blank ? The PC may take a long time trying to find data on a blank disc, that is not unusual. You can normally tell a burnt disc with the naked eye, so you shouldn't need to get the PC to do that. What I suspect happened in it failed to burn for a reason such as PCF failure, and the allotted space on the disc used for calibrating the writer was used up, rendering the disc useless.
More likely to be a problem is:
Bad batch of media / bad disc(s) within that batch
Incompatible media
Media not supported by firmware
... none of which is resolved by re-installing software.
