I would like to know if I will be able to play movies with 5.1 sound on a 2 Channel Stereo Receiver.

I backed up these movies with the ac3 or 5.1 instead of and adding the 2 channel stereo sound track as well.

In your case ac3 and 5.1 is the same thing since you only have a stereo reciever you cannot hear the dvd in all its 5.1 glory you need a 5.1 setup (thats 5 satellite speakers and a subwoofer) to hear surround sond ac3 ... P.S. you can get a 5.1 reciever for about 100-1,000 dollars it depends on your budget and tastes

  4. Well, to answer your question, since no one else bothered, yes, you can play 5.1 sound through a two channel set up. I always keep the 5.1 sound and scrap the stereo because the 5.1 will, in nearly every case, be converted to stereo in order to be played.
