  1. Unsure if anyone can help but hear goes. I put a CCTV card in my pc and loaded the software on but on doing this windows (xp home) has lost it's sound. I have checked all the settings i can think of. But can't find anything wrong with it. There is no tune when starting up windows or any other sound that windows makes. Device manager shows everything is ok as well. I use nero media player and get a message saying "Can't open output device". Anyone have any suggestions.

  2. Try reinstalling the sound drivers that came with your PC. My PC is built with an Asus motherboard and requires the sound drivers to be installed before it will output any sound.

Look out for the system mute before installing drivers! Right click on the speaker icon on the bottom right of your screen (in the taskbar) and "Adjust audio properties". Have a hunt for the mute checkbox and make sure it isn't checked.

    Hope this helps!

  3. Thanks for that but another problem i have is i don't have the sound drivers. my pc is only 4 weeks old but it comes with the software preloaded and if you want a re-load cd to put pc back to out of box state you have to pay £100. i was hoping to find a cheaper way to fix it.

  4. £100 is ridiculous! What company did you buy it from?

Unfortunately, I don't know the solution to your problem. I can tell you how to test your sound device, but that's all. If you go to start and select "Run" and type "dxdiag", you'll see a sound tab. That'll let you test your sound output.

Apart from that, I don't have any suggestions. I will ask a few friends for you and see what I can find out.
