  1. Hi, in recording data to CDR/CDRW/DVD-R, and DVD-RW I've noticed different ISO formats are used and none of them seem to support the (up-to) charactor file names being used.

    Any ideas on which ISO standards could/should be used on each of these media formats to acheive the greatest file name lengths possible would be GREATLY appreciated!!

  2. ISO Level 2 allows 31 characters if you use ISO9660 and Joliet, IIRC.

    Some authoring apps allow you to "relax" the restructions at the possible risk of reducing compatibility. That should be good for DATA CD and DVD.

    Mode 2 XA gives a little more space on the disc at the expense of error correction but does nothing for filename length.

    ISO/UDF for longest (don't even bother with Joliet).

    UDF for file system, ISO to be readable still by PC, but uses UDF naming scheme.

    This also keeps long names between MAC/PC transfers.
    Leave Joilet OFF if transferring MAC<->PC files.
