I've burnt 2 DVD-R (tried with DataWrite 4X, Verbatim 2X (25box)) containing a movie shrunk with DVD2ONE.
The DVD-R freezes with trying to play chapters at the end of the movie. (Player Philips Q50)
Done the same thing with a DVD+RW and it works..
Writer used : BTC Dual DVDWriter 1004
Burnt with Nero 5.5.10
Anybody had this kind of problem ? Dued to DVD2ONE or bad media quality at the edge of disc (over 4Gb) ?
Thanks

There are lots of existing threads about this. Most suspect is bad media and those who use those discs* generally limit the max burns to 4 - 4.2 gig to use them up.
There's a huge media database on the left - DVD Media - that includes comments. It will help you choose alternatives.
Another resource - DVD Players - can help you find what works best on your model.
* I do not mean those particular discs you have. I mean any problematic discs. There's no place like 127.0.0.1
The Rogue Pixel: Pixels are like elephants. Every once in a while one of them will go nuts. -
Wouldn't it be great if there was some form of "Quality Assurance" on DVD media before it hit the shelves? I 've just had a full 20 pack of "dud" DVD-R's, Laser brand, & every single one of them is a coaster, not playing correctly, playing half way through, skipping, not reading, locking up etc. I was advised many times on this forum, my problem is the media, but I wouldn't believe it because my first 20 discs (A different batch) worked perfectly & I just figured something else has caused this problem, It can't be these discs because too many have worked before hand.
It turns out, it was the batch of media, I then bought a different type & they have all worked perfectly now. A cheaper brand in fact! Shintaro brand & the full 4.7g works fine! Other people have mentioned a certain Windows update can cause similar problems, using marker pens to label or sticking labels onto the disc can do this. It was suggested I should upgrade my firmware, did that & had no change! Someone even suggested swapping your IDE cable to slave??
Everyone seems to recommend Ritek media, apparently it's top notch & compatible with everything. Just try some different discs, I now use 1x & have had no further issues.. good luck -
Your standalone DVD player can read DVD-R disk, or it wouldn't have
been able to play the beginning of the movie.
If it can't read the end of the disk, it may be because
- the media you used is bad (verbatim disks should be fine as long as
you use the "datalife plus" brand and not the "datalife" brand), or
because
- your player cannot read properly DVD-R disks burnt at high speed
(for instance, my old Panasonic player cannot read the end of
any disk burnt at a speed higher than 2.4x). Try burning one of your
DVD-Rs at a lower speed and see if it improves. -
Actually beyond that. Verbatims should be fine long as they say "DataLife Plus" and 2x on them. If they do not say 2x they still might be CMCs and therefore not so great.Originally Posted by vega1970
