Hello i have this problem with my video files- mostly dix! When i mark/click them to move them to another folder or to do anything with em, the screen goes black, blink a couple of times and then it goes back to the start of the video file list (in the folder) so i can't realy move them, or do anything with them!
When i double click them for playback in wma the same thing happens although the video file plays as normal afterwards!
I have tried installing nimo codec pack and i also code my dvd's with Dr div X! Nothing works!!! It's killing me![]()
Ps its not just videos i've coded!
I use Geforce 4 ti 4200 with 2 screen setup! It worked perfectly before so what is wrong???
PLEASE HELP ME IM GOING CRAZY![]()

I've had a similar problem trying to move .avi files. This worked for me. Avi files (divx) can be trouble in xp. there is a fix to let xp behave much better so it's possible to move or delete large avi files. The obnoxious bug in XP that causes Explorer to read the entire contents of broken AVI files before allowing any access to them is caused by "shmedia.dll". To correct this misbehavior in Windows XP, remove the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D9 4-71B3-4b9a-9489- 5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32
This will prevent Explorer from loading shmedia.dll in response to file property queries on these files. Just an extra note, if you do a "search" for this key it will not be found, so look for it manually, it is very easy to find. As always newbie or not, if you FUBAR your registry its your own fault.
Hope this helps.Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -
Has anyone else had this problem- can you confirm the reg change to be done? So why hasn't xp done this before???

It's a known issue in XP(1 of 1000's of known issues), and also happens in W2K. You can aleviate the problem by running in classic/non-preview mode. The problem goes away with the correct codecs installed.
Codec packs are evil, and actually break themselve upon installation. It's just someone trying to be cool by bundling up 'the latest' stuff. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan
