Screen goes black for half a second in Screen Virtuoso avi video stream.
I have just purchased Screen Virtuoso, version 3.1.0.2101, onto my WIn XP (3.4 gig, 512 ram, 250 Gig space) Medion 8383 computer. On the whole, it is an absolutely, fantastic program, but I can't seem to find out why the files play back perfectly in Windows player (ver 9), but they are short video black-outs, when viewed in Sony Vegas 7.
I have been recording streaming video from a Nasa Educational site, and found that the RAW avi files, play back fine in Windows Media Player.
However, when the video is imported into Sony Vegas (version 7) program, I can see that the stream has some problems, as the video strip, that shows the frames, occasionally shows some red (corrupt) frames (noted in the blue ring).
When previewing the rendered video, the rendered avi's sound is fine, but the video stream has a 1 second black-out, every 5 to 6 minutes throughout the strip (noted in the lower blue ring, above)
Going through the help, pages, i narrowed it down to it being something to do with video and audio syncronisation, so I went into the audio > additional audio options, as noted below;
I went into "use audio stream to correct video length" was already ticked, but above where it shows, "Interleave-----none----medium---full", the none box was ticked, so I changed it to full.
This seemed to have made no difference.
I then looked into the video menu, and looked at the compressor. The compressor can't be switched off, it can only be ultered by a drop down menu, which original had "FM Screen capture codec". I switched it to "Microsoft Video 1", but still with the same result.
I have also tried adjusting the settings, to fit in with PAL and NTSC formats, but this also didn't remove the black-outs.
Does anyone know of anything else I should switch, does the program have some bugs?, or does anyone know a better program for capturing streaming video-audio,from off the screen?
Thanks
PS: just a side note, I've used the Applian WM recorder, which generates .asf files, but vegas absolutely hates that format, as the encoded file is all garbled.
This is why I rather go with a program that captures the audio and video from the screen, to an .avi.

I thought it may have had something to do with the codecs, so I've just updated to Windows Media Player 11, DivX Version 6.6, and have downloaded the latest Xvid Codec 1.1.3. Nothing seems to have changed, still get the blackouts on the video stream.
When trying to record with the DivX codec, I don't even get a video strip in vagas, just an audio strip only. -
Got to the bottom of it, it is a bug with Sony Vegas 7. I took the avi video from Screen virtuoso to vegas, and got the problem, yet on the other hand I viewed the files in NTI DVD Creator, and things were okay. I then took the files into Nero Vision 3, viewed the files, and again, vula, things were fine.
SO THE SHORT OF IT IS THIS:
Looks like sony needs to look at the compatibility between their program and avi files..
Screen Virtuoso files can be edited in Vegas, but they have to be encoded in to mpeg frirst through Nero Vision express 3. The mpeg files seem to work okay with Vegas 7. It's a lot of screwing around, but until Sony can resolve this BIG issue (avi being the main video editing codec), that's just the way it is, so here is the procedure.
1. Open Nero Vision Express 3, and in the drop down menu, select "make movie"
2. On the upper right panel of the interface, click the first blue button on the left, which will allow you to browse for the desired .avi file. If you have a heap, just chuck them all in.
The .avi files will appear in the import window.
3. Select all the files in the "display media" window, and drag them all into the event bar to the bottom.
4. Now click the export button on the bottom, and choose the desired destination for the .mpeg file.
Nero will place all the seperate .avi files into one long .mpeg, but don't worry, this is okay. You will be able to edit and break them up again in Vegas.
5. Close Nero, open Vegas, and open the .mpeg file you have created, and you'll be able to edit the "Screen virtuoso" captured video to your hearts content
