    I'm feeling quite 'out-of-date' burning my CDRs @ 8x. =|
So I'm hoping to buy a cd burner that support 90mins (I don't care 99min) and has BURN-Proof (or similar) technology. I'm looking for a 24x or 20x burner. Any suggestions? I been checking out Sefy's recent list of compared cd burners, and the Lite-On 24x seems like a cheap burner. But is it reliable? Anyone know? Thanks for any input. =)

  2. I don't have the Lite-On 24x, but I've read lots of reviews, and it looks like a very good burner for the price.

If I were going to buy a burner today, that's the one I'd go for.

If money were no object, I'd go for a Plextor.

  3. I have a Lite-on 12x burner and I can tell you that these burners are just as good as a Plextor but for half the price. I would highly recommend buying it, if the price is right.

    I just ordered the Lite-On 24x...
$104 Retail Model (with all the goodies such as Nero, CDR Media). The other place had it for $96 OEM, but the shipping was more expensive there.

The final was around $115. Which I think is a great bargain for a 24x CD Burner. =)

Perhaps I'll post my experiences in the near future.
Thanks for the input guys. =)

  6. I bought my liteon last week and its excellent. The only drawback, (if you class it as a drawback)is that it will not record less than 8x, this is stated on the cdrinfo site.
Apart from that its burning everything ok.
Exceelent piece of kit, and at a good price.

Yeah, I've read about that - it cannot burn slower than 8x. Why is that? Isn't that kinda weird?

  9. Can it burn 90min/99min CDRs? If so I'm ordering one today

  10. According to all the information I gathered from loads of places, all the series of Lite-On burners support 90 and 9 min CDR burning, I cannot verify this for myself as I don't own one, although i'm really tempted at buying the 24x drive since you can buy it for as little as 95$

  12. I've used my Tosh 6702b to read at max and Liteon to write at 24x on 24x media and had no probs(psx though).

This may help the buyers amongst you

  13. Liteon Rocks! It is cheap but dont expect to get a cheap product with poor performance. I compared it to my friend's TDK VeloCD 24x and my 16x burner burned a CD as fast as his!!! The time difference was just a few seconds. The Drive is outstanding and Plextor is just a name with a high price tag.

This gotta be the deal of the century. Liteon is certainly thinkin about us average folks!

    GO BUY A LITEON TODAY!

Thanks for the extra info, I feel more confident in my purchase decision. =)

I wanted to get a Plextor (eh, money... ) because of it's PoweRec II technology, but Lite-On has a technology called SMART-Burn which is equilvant. To summarize short, the technology ensures not only a fast, but QUALITY burn.
    QUALITY > SPEED !!!

  15. Performance wise Lite-On is a good brand, but iv heard from people that they arent as durable as other brands. If youre looking for a cheap, fast burner go with lite-on, personally im a fan of Plextors, i have a 24x, and 16x plextor, and a 6x Ricoh. The Plextors work great, but the Ricoh sometimes gives trouble with certain cdr media.

  16. I was going to get the Plextor 24x in at the end of next week. I've got the Plextor 8x (SCSI) and it's ROCK solid. Before that I had a Phillips 2x (paid $350 back in the day) and I went through in in ~1yr.

The Lite-on looks really nice thou. The Plextor's don't burn 90min/99min CDRs either (which would be really nice). And the Plextor cost 2x. So I guess I'm going with the Lite-on Thanks for the advise/input...

  17. Just wanted to say I just had a Lite-On 24x (unfortunatly just for testing, it belongs to a friend of mine) and the drive CAN burn 90min and 99min CDR media! I even burned the 99min at 24x speed, although i've been told that is not recommanded, oh well, I never did what other people recommanded when it came to hardware

    Sefy,
I just wanted to point a simple typo in your CD-Writers Comparison page. The Lite-On 24x LTR-24102B has it's BURN-Proof technology type listed as "SMART-X", it's supposed to be "SMART-Burn" (Smart Monitoring & Adapting Recording Technology for Burning) =)

SMART-X is another technology this cd-writer has which is Smart Monitoring & Adjusting Read-speed Technology -for- eXtraction... it's used to change the read speed for Audio Discs, VCDs, and such. =)

Keep up the superb work on the site and such. It really helped out me out a ton (and even led me to buying this new Lite-On CDRW =).

  19. Jeomite, thanks for the correction, i'll fix it immediatly! I must have mixed them when I read on their home page, since Smart-X propably came before Smart-Burn.

And I'm glad you found it helpful!

In my honest opinon, Lite-On is a very reliable burner! It comes with Nero(yippie!). Over here in the States it sold as a BusLink product. The burn-proof works great and had any big proplems with it!
