  1. hi i have a film clip that's encoded as a divx.avi. i try to play it in mediaplayer and it's ok for 15 seconds then the video freezes although the audio is fine.
i've tried to encode it as an mpeg1 so i can play it through my standalone dvd player but Tmpgenc plus does the same as mediaplayer, i.e freezes in the source range tab at exactly the same point. i've ran the clip through gspot and its telling me its a divx5 and that i have the appropriate codec installed. i've also tried to reencode to divx3.11 low motion with virtualdub but i get the same result- freezing after 15 seconds, audio ok all the way through.
i scanned for bad frames in virtualdub and got a message saying "x" amount of frames ok, the rest un-encodable! i tried to play the clip using the videolan player and it plays just fine, so the video must be ok!
i'm getting really naffed off with this guys cos i've done hundreds of reencodes but never came across this before and i dont want to let this beat me, any suggestions would be great. thanx

If you have un-encodeable frames, doesn't that mean your video is corrupt?

Video Lan is ignoring the errors your other programs cannot.

Just because you can view it, doesn't mean it's encodeable. Some players ignore errors (which you can see if you look hard enough). Use VDUB to 'fix' (cut out and create a jump) your errors and go from there (it's in the guides).

If it's a default DivX, then your screwed (key frames every 10 seconds).
