I have the DAC-100 and I am very pleased with it. I've transfered many LD's and VHS tapes to dvdr with it. A word of caution, if you plan to transfer tapes that are lower than 1st generation copies as I do (live concerts etc) then you may want to invest in a Time Base Corrector (TBC).Originally Posted by sneakers180

thanks for your input!!! do you have an approximate price on that item, and--- would you be willing to help me with a step by step guide on how you transfer vhs to dvd???
one last question (for now!)--- what do you have to have with the DAC100, like any cables, software or capture cards not usually included in sales???
MANY THANKS!!!!!!!

Do a quick search, this has been discussed many, many, many times. I have a ADVC 100 (works great) but the truth is they are both great products.

Everything you need in terms of cables is in the box.
Your computer must have a Firewire (aka 1394 or iLink) port in order to connect the DAC-100 to it.
No software comes with the DAC-100, so you will need a video capture software. Any software that can capture from a mini-DV camara will be able to capture from the DAC-100. For video capture purposes, the computer treats the DAC-100 the same as a mini-DV camera.
I bought mine off eBay for $179 + shipping. -
Price is about $180. I use Scenalyzer Live to do the DV capture. I then encode to MPEG2 using TMPGenc plus. I use Dazzle DVD Complete to author the dvd which is no longer made so I'm now experimenting with DVD-lab. Check the guides here on dvdrhelp, and you can find step by step instructions on each one of these programs.Originally Posted by sneakers180
