  1. IF your writer stay in PIO mode even if you have selected use DMA and it supports DMA try this to fix it. It worked for my PIONEER A05!!!

    If XP detects enough DMA errors on a drive it switches to PIO and won't let you change it.

    The fix is to remove MasterIdDataCheckSum or SlaveIdDataCheckSum depending on the drive at this registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    Choose 001 if the drive is on your primary IDE channel, 002 if on your secondary.

    Another option is to remove your primary/secondary IDE channel and let XP rebuild them, but that's a little more hazardous.
