Hi. I've searched and I haven't seen any guides/topics on this subject. Hopefully one of the experts here can help me out.
I'm working on a movie and I'm currently in the stage of mixing the project in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, with 6 WAV files to be converted into 5.1 AC3 using SoftEncode.
How exactly does an LFE track work? Would I put my sound effect (for example: gunshot, punch) in the LFE track? Do I put some kind of rumble sound effect on the track? What exactly would I do?
So far, I've tried just making a 5.0 track, and once in a blue moon, the effects are strong enough to bleed into the subwoofer. I'd like more of a punch on my soundtrack.
Thanks in advance,
J

Hello TenaciousJP.
While i have never tried this, it may be worth a try. I would author your 5 main audio tracks with all your sound efects in them, Then you could mix them all into a single wav file, apply a 40hz Low Pass filter and use the resulting low frequency wav as your LFE channel.
Thanks, Deekkeed! I think I'll try that. It just might work.
If anyone else has any suggestions, feel free to share.
40hz???
try something more like 300hz i think.......
