  1. Hey all,

I am making DVDs with DVD-Lab and am very happy.

However, when I play the resulting files in my software player, the background and images look terrible, even when using the backgrounds supplied by the program. The writing has some graininess around it too.

Anyone know what the issue is here?

The NTSC video signal has it limits. The bandwith of the color component is about 1 Mhz where as the B&W content has about 4.2 Mhz bandwith. If you use solid colors for background and text, the result would be fuzzy text.

So the sharpest text would be white on black or dark shades of gray. Yellow works well with a dark background color.

With a DVDlab menu with a busy or light background, use the rectangle with a dark color with about 50% transparency for the background behind the text, and white or yellow for the text. Experiment for desired results.

    Regards,

    Chas

  3. Is there reason to convert to "NTSC safe colors"?

Will my TV get damaged if I do not convert to NTSC safe colors?

    Thanks

    No TV damage is possible.
NTSC safe colors only prevents certain colors from bleeding. I think theres a pretty good explanation in the DVD Lab help, if I remember correctly.
