Princo 1X DVD-R media, Toshiba SD-R5002, VAIO RS320, WinXP

I have a Sony VAIO RS-320 running WinXP. The machine has a Toshiba SD-R5002 with firmware 1S32.

I bought 50 Princo 1X DVD-R discs from Computer123.com for $36.99 plus tax.

When I use DVD Decrypter to write ISO file, the writing process would stop with “write error” after about 25% complete. So far, I have made four coasters. DVD Decrypter did not have the same problem when writing the same file to Memorex media. I tried both MAX and 1x speed without any success with the Princo discs.

Nero Burner 5.5.10.28 does not even recognize the Princo disc. However, it recognizes the Memorex without any problem.

Sony’s tool “Click to DVD” wrote a short lead-in then crapped out. This tool did not have any problem with Memorex.

Toshiba has a warning about write problem with SD-R5002 and suggests installing firmware version 1033. However, that firmware version is not compatible with my Sony OEM drive. Sony said that they don't have any newer firmware than what I already have.

I have read several postings in dvdrhelp forum and these postings all said Princo & SD-R5002 is an OK combination.

1. Has anyone successfully and reliably write to Princo 1x discs using Toshiba SD-R5002? If yes, what is your firmware version? What tool did you use to write? I am trying to eliminate possible causes to my problem.

2. Should I abandon the Princo discs completely and buy more expensive discs? If so, what is good choice? Is there anything decent for less than $1 per disc?

i burned 10 princos all had coasters so i sold them to a friend who uses them for data..

i then bout a 100 pack of ritek and haver burned about 80 without a single coaster..

I've had problems with Princo 1X branded (stamped) and non-branded with my Toshiba sdr5002 burner. The coasters were minimized with Pinnacle Instant Copy but 3 hrs to burn a disk was not an acceptable
long term solution. . I added an A06 to my system and the 1X nonstamped Princos worked fine but the stamped 1xs were coasters over 4G.

The Princo 4X (white tops) work fine in both my Toshiba and A06.
They burn at 2x and 4x respectively.
Not 1 coaster yet.
