  1. yo guys, it's about months that i'm thinking about that thing, i hope any of u got answers to my questions hehe
i was thinking, many movies are just trash or boring as hell, but they have some of the most spectacular scenes i've ever seen (i.e. pearl harbor and xXx).... is it possible to cut those scenes (just few mins of the movie) without loosing quality and digital audio, and then join em back one after other???
AND playing this stuff on a standalone dvd player?
    maybe i want the moon.....
but if anyone has an idea, well.....
    thx in advance

  2. I believe you can do that with premier and many other editing warez. However, I think we might lose some qualities though.

Premiere needs a plug in in order to edit MPEG-2 on the time line.
You could convert to another format that premiere handles and export to mpeg-2 when done

Now: They say it doesn't do mpeg2 bvut ive done it
I've done it and it works a little without the plug in but not with ac3 audio

MPEG Marvel is oneof such third party plug ins

I have done this in premiere, but only with 2 channel audio, not 5.1 . I have some SVCD's of all the 'best' kung-fu fighting scenes ( with suitable background music because who wants to hear grunts? ). It ends with quick clips of 'death' scenes. I did it over several weeks, jsut kept adding to it until it was 'righteous!'.

When I say I did it in SVCD, that doesn't mean I couldn't have encoded to DVD ( SVCD or DVD it's all a setting in TMPG, everything else is pretty much the same except the final resolution). The Premier project is in 720x480 all the way, even the final encode. With the final AVI I made an SVCD and a XviD version (and a WMV as a test, it was pretty dam good, but the same size as the XviD). I could have done it differently, but I new I was going to make multiple versions (the VCD couldn't keep up with the action, but the xVCD was truly inspiring!)

I would have spent less time rendering if I did the project in 480x480, but so what, I encoded overnight.

Well I cannot reccomend the MPEG MARVEL product
It will not import ac3 laden MPEG files

I've found the only tool that cuts the mPEG STREAM easily , quickly and without messing up the embedded audio streams (all of em)
    IS THE WOMBLE EDITOR
    MPEG2VCR
however, it does not interface with premiere

and its just a cuts only (with some advanced effects) editor
It also screws the original CHAPTERS when it cuts

    you might try this...

rip the vob files containing the scenes you want.

use Chopper or ChopperXP (depending on your OS) to cut out just the sequence you want.

import those vob files into DVD Lab or your authoring software of choice, and author your dvd.

Do not edit out the grunts, everyone needs to hear the grunts.

  14. A really simple method would be to use DVDx to rip the scenes...you can set the bitrate and everything and then set the starting point of the scene you want to rip. Just stop the encoding when that scene is finished. Then you could merge it all with TMPGenc. Just make sure all your settings on DVDx are DVD-Compatible so when you need to burn to DVD it works.

    Here's DVD-Compatible settings:

  15. And here's the output settings for DVD.

you may be able to toy with the bitrates, but I know for sure those bitrates work.

  16. @housepig:

Is there anyway to get rid of the Mainconcept watermark when you use ChopperXP?

    and @negon:

is there anyway to maintain AC3 audio?

    You didn't ask me,
but I've done just what you ask with the $250
    Womble Editor..
and it keeps the AC3 surround and the 2 channel in the same file

DVDx converts all your audio to 44khz for VIDEO CD
or 48KHZ mPeg audio for re-authoring..but no AC3

and chopper XP doesn't insert the WATERMARK, you need to pay for MAINCONCEPT or use another encoder you alrady paid for to eliminate the watermark as CHOPPER doesn't add it and can't subratrct it
