  1. Hi,

I was trying to frameserv my video into TMPEGEnc using virtual dub, but TMPEGEnc says that the vdr isn't a good file.
That's weird because I tried last week and it worked then, I tried with different vdr files but it just won't work.

Can somebody please help me ?

  2. When saving the vdr file with vdub give it an avi extension, so save as "video.avi" and use the quotation marks.

  3. Thank you I will try now....

  4. It still doesn't work and i did what you said.
The file is a XvID, could that be a problem ? I don't have the XvID codec, I'm using a special XvID player.

I made a screenshot of the error i get.

When you are opening .vdr in TMPGEnc you must select All files for opening in TMPGEnc window. Then you can open it and it will work.

  8. Ok, I'll delete Virtual Dub and re-install it, but it could be in the registery and I don't know what Virtual Dubs registery keys are...

  9. I've re-downloaded Virtual Dub and tried but I still have the same problem.

Which version of TMPGEnc are you guys using ? I'm using the latest.

But isn't there another way to add subtitles (maybe with another program) so that i won't have to use Virtual Dub ?

  10. Will TMPGEnc open the file without frameserving ?

You were probrably just downloading the source code if you went to xvid.org. Try here

get this file here and unzip it
    https://www.videohelp.com/readavs-vdr.zip

once unzipped, run the install.bat file. after that is completed, open tmpgenc and goto options....environmental...vfapi.... look for an entry named Avisynth/Virtualdub script reader (in the middle column it will say the file name is readavs.dll). Make sure this does not say "file can not be loaded") if it doesn't, that means the bat file did its job. Now all you need to do is increase this plugins priority, by right clicking on it and clicking "higher priority". I would recommend it at least be on the top.

if your plugin does say "File can not be loaded" or something to that effect, you'll need to create a folder in your "program files" directory named "vfapi" and place that readavs.dll there. that .bat file doesn't allways do its job correctly.

Is there any other way 2 add subtitles without vdub ?

i may be speaking the obvious, but you did install the avi file handler in virtualdub's auxsetup.exe? Also, i do not recommend frameserving the audio. Just use the "save wav" option in vdub, and turn off the audio before frameserving. One last note, that readavs.dll looks for a file with the extention .vdr. It doesn't like it with the .vdr.avi extention.

  20. Yes I installed the handler, of course

    But it still doens't work

  21. Yes I can.
I can encode it as well.

But is vdub the only program which can add subtitles ?
    Quote Quote
  22. You can encode it ? but you said TMPGEnc would not open the file. So have you used something else to encode it ?
    Quote Quote
  23. TMPGEnc encodes the avi file, but it doesn't encode the *.vdr when I use vdub.

Its really weird because it used to open vdr's.

Is there another program that alows me to add subtitles to the movie ?

Not that I know off but I am sure there must be something.

  25. Try turning on the aviproxy and then frameserving the file from Vdub with an avi extension and no quotation marks.

I just tried and it doesn't work. I tried with TMPGEnc 2.5 Plus, doesn't work.

Could it be something in my computer ?
