my first problem is when i use moviefactory to convert and burn my avi file, it makes them too big to fit on a dvd. when i convert my avi's using tmpgenc and virtual dub, then burn them using moviefactory, it works just fine. my second problem is when i add the clip to moviefactory after converting using tmpgenc and virtual dub, i add chapters to the movie, and make a menue using moviefactory. but when i try and burn the movie i get this error message:
Some chapter entry frame numbers exceed the total number of frames [93006:1:0]
does anyone else have these problems or have any suggestions on how to fix these two problems with moviefactory?

If you find the answer post it here because I had the same issues and never did find out why--My files were encoded using tmpgenc as well and i was using the 3:2 pulldown settings(don't know if you are or not)--when i stopped using it and left it interlaced, it went away--I don't know if thats the same for you but I think its likely just a symptom to an underlying bug in movie factory.

When I convert using TMPEnc (.mpg) I either have great video and no audio or I get "freezing video" and out sync audio (m2v+wav, use IFOEDIT and end up with VIDEO T_S file). Please any advice would be most grateful.
Thanks -
when i convert using moviefactory the audio and video stay in sync, but i have never been able to put them on a dvd because moviefactory always makes the files too big. when using tmpenc you need to convert the audio to wav using virtual dub, then when you add your movie on tmpenc you choose to use the audio that was converted using tmpenc, that should fix the sync problem because i have never had any problems with that, but you need to make sure that there are no glitches in the divx movie, or the audio will get off. when you watch it on the computer, it usually fixes the audio glitches, but when converting to dvd the audio will be off if there are any glitches in the orignal film.

Thanks for your reply Saint. You are right about MF2, it does make the file too big. Right now I just finished converting Shawshank Redemption on MF2. I tested it out on PowerDVD and it looks great. No audio or video "freezing" problems. Before I was getting that after converting with TMPENC. Unfortunately the file is way too big. Is there any way I can put this on DVD or did I just waste my time waiting five hours for the conversion on MF2?

I just want you to know that I did use virtual dub to create the wav file and put it into the tmpenc but the end result was still out of sync audio with "freezing" video. This is why I used MF2 and when I saw the results I said there is got to be a way to do this with other encoders like tmpenc. Maybe I am missing something Saint. I mean I use 48khz, 16 bit, DVD NTSC etc;. Is there a specific step you know of that I am missing? Please let me know ok?
This is the furthest I come in a month and a half since I started. I refuse to pay $20 for a DVD movie and I am not about to start now. I appreciate any more advice you can pass on. Thanks in advance.

yah i dont know what to do about the file converted with moviefacty, i just erased mine cause i knew that i couldnt burn it. i followed all the steps off this web site and then used moviefactory to burn the converted video
https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgencdvd.htm
im not sure if you have checked out this guide, but it worked for me, and i did everything exactly as the guide says. when i burned on to dvd using moviefactory i checked the boxes to not have a menue and to just play the movie right away, because when i added chapters and stuff, i got an error message from moviefactory. im also still on my free trial offer from tmpgenc that converts to dvd formate video, the newest version of tmpgenc.
hope this helpsThings i enjoy doing are running around in circles, eating rocks, and having jumping competitions with people shorter than me. -
That's the problem I follow these guides and I get audio that's out of sync or video that "freezes". I also used TMPEnc dvd conversion guide and when I put it into the MF2 and burned it, I played it on our DVD player and no audio. Great video but the audio is not compatible on my RCA.

Try changing the mpeg custom settings for your project.
things to try:
-change variable bitrate lower
lower resolution
-definitely change audio from LPCM to MPeg and then change your audio
bit-rate
or use the Templates to change settings
from High to other ones
I also had to check- then uncheck "do not convert valid mpeg" box for some reason.
I did this with Divx.avi's of Star Wars Trilogy WS - All three fit and quality IS BETTER than VCD:
Constant bitrate 1500
resolution of 352 x 240 (change for only 2 hr movie)
MPEG audio of 160 rate
Had menus with chapters added: just highlight video and select ADD/EDIT Chapters - You can do these manualy by select(or sliding) timeline and clicking ADD
You can even change the picture of the chapter by selecting the "picture/frame" you want in the preview window and right-clicking on the chapter whos picture you want to change -
i get audio and video that is out of sync too, but that is because the orignal downloaded moive has a glitch in it. when i watch it on the computer, at a certain point in the movie, it freezes, then it starts going again. the computer fixes the audio, so they are back in sync. when i convert the video to dvd format at that point where the video freezes, the audio keeps going so for the rest of the movie, the audio is faster than the video. this might be a dumb question, but did you watch the whole orignal video on the computer to make sure that there are no points in the movie that freeze for a second? because if there are any when you convert the dvd, the audio and video will get off at that point. i dont know if this helps you at all.

If you have bad spots in the film try using the
demo of ulead's Media studio pro (Demo available)
I downloaded this the other day-
you can trim it out and spit it out as just about any format you want (even divx 5.05) even MPEG 2(just change settings the way you want)
Then you can just import it into movie factory
I'd buy the full version - but money is tight -
Grim-Ripper:
you said that you added chapters and a menu to your movie. did you use moviefactory to do that? if so did you get an error message like the one that i posted at the top of this form about the entry frames?Things i enjoy doing are running around in circles, eating rocks, and having jumping competitions with people shorter than me.
