  1. I keep reading about these templates so I downloaded one for SVCD. I was surprised that the template only encodes video. Why is that?

  2. Most people view TMPGENC as not a very good tool for converting video so that would be my guess as why only video. Most people use BeSweet to convert their audio which is a pretty easy app to use. Of course, the person who can definitively answer is Kwag himself :P

  3. TMPGEnc does has some problems with encoding audio. On some frequencies the audio can sound tinny. BeSweet and other programs can process audio much better than TMPGEnc.

But of course, you could have found all this out at Kwag's KVCD.net site where you first downloaded the template...!

I spent about an hour there reading the guides but I don't recall any mention of why the audio is encoded separately. Sorry!

because some people just prefer using another program for the audio. you can use use tmpgenc for the audio if you want, though. so its not a video only template.

  6. I've never had any problems with the audio quality of TMPG, even with sample rate conversions, although I usually use Cool Edit Pro for those. Just remember that MP2 audio isn't as good quality as MP3 audio, so make sure you don't drop the bitrates below 192kbps.

    Hi Michelle,

    There are basically two reasons.
    (1) TMPEG's audio encoder is really crappy, unless you encode your audio >=192Kbps.
    (2) If you have a Dolby Prologic II receiver, you won't be able to take advantage of "Surround 2" (AC3/DD5.1-->DS2) audio capability
In a short explanation, use HeadAC3he as your audio encoder, and even at 112Kbps audio encoded as surround 2, it will sound better that TMPEG's audio encoded at 192Kbps.
There's no way to get surround 2 sound with TMPEG's audio encoder. You either have to use HeadAC3he or BeSweet. My choice is always HeadAC3he, because it's much faster than BeSweet

    Hope that helps
