I was wondering if there was a tool that converts Xvid (or any other format) to the KVCD format?

	KVCD isn't a format, it's just some MPEG codec settings to make a 'out of specification' VCD that may or may not play on a set top player. TMPGEnc encoder can do it, as can many encoders that allow the settings changes. Do a Google search for 'kvcd tmpgenc templates'.

	My experiance with kvcd disk are that it is a very crappy way to record a movie. I have never seen one that was any good.

	I agree, better off watching the avi on the PC than burning a K vCD disc, you are loosing bitrate and resolution.. better off to convert to DVD,

 yeah DVD discs cost more the file size goes up, but you won't loose any quailty if you do it correctly

 for standalone use and watching on the old teley, DVD is much better than K vCD,

 [Learn to do KVCD's the right way, and then you just *might* learn something about advanced video encodings]

 Oh, btw I forgot to mention, we at kvcd.net don't really do KVCD's anymore!
 It's all KDVDs with HC encoder, Phil's new tool for prediction, and kwag's tools which are now open source, if you weren't aware of that.
 Here's a little screenshot of Phil's tool, so you can all see what we are talking about:

 @mjaeson,

 To add to your question, there's also a commercial encoder, YMPEG, http://www.ympeg.com that supports KVCD/KDVD natively.
 And for MACs, there's ffmpegX, which also supports KVCD/KDVD built-in.
 http://homepage.mac.com/major4/
 And MythTV, http://www.mythtv.org also has a plugin (nuv2disk) that let's you transcode your captured AVIs directly to KVCD/KDVD!!
 Check it out here: http://www.mythtvtalk.com/nuv2disc/screens/index.html

 Cheers!
