Hello! I am still debating on whether or not the AVERDVD capture card would give me better capturing (less dropped frames) over the ATI AIW 128 Pro tuner card (using MMC 7.7) which I currently have. I have not started to capture yet since I just got done putting together my system.

Can I get a vote based on your experiences as to which one I should use to capture my old 8mm tapes based on my system configuration. I also heard that AVERDvd can capture in realtime for MPG2?

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

    TIA.
    Thanks and regards,

I wouldn't buy either one of them, if you're looking for good analog capture go with the Canopus ADVC-50 or ADVC-100, they are the best consumer-level analog capture devices on the market today.

I haven't tried the ATI AIW, but the Aver card has me satisfied for analog capture.

I do find that I get better results capturing in .avi and converting to mpeg2 than I get from capturing directly to mpeg2, at least using the included NeoDVD capture app. (better meaning more definition)

I have a AIW 128 16mb and a avermedia tv stereo. Being able to use the btwincap drivers is a big plus with the avermedia. I use iuvcr to cap broadcast to dv.avi on the fly I have access to a dsr20 dv/dvcam vtr which would function like a Canopus dv bridge but I don't need to hassle with it. If you are uncomfortable dealing with making sure drivers stay current and your direct show filter priority doesn't get screwed up then any bt878 card is the way to go. If you aren't proficient at that, a dv camcorder or a canopus dv bridge might be the way to go. I'm getting ready to buy a 120gb hd so I'll be all huffyuv all the time and you can't do that with an analog to dv device.
