  1. I have finaly understood that most capture cards are being used mainly for enhancing the PQ or changing the aspect ratio of their video.

I only want the card for recording/playback purposes only. My PQ is fine the way it is now. I want it to be similiar to a VCR.

So the question is which capture card is the best for recording a show for a later playback?

  2. Try going to capture cards section and search for TV tuner cards. Sould be what you want.

  3. I actually do not need a tuner. I will input the signal via s-video from my satellite receiver.

I am thinking of the Creative Digital VCR, but the reviews are mixed.

  4. I use the Creative Labs Digital VCR and it works well for me. I took my sons 7 Rescue Hero VHS Videos (Each 11 min in length) and captured with this card. I converted the videos to MPEG-2 with the conversion program provided with the card. I used virtualDub - MPEG to convert to an AVI file for easy use in Studio 8.5.21. Created a menu for them and burned to DVD.
I have not used it to record a show from my satellite dish (that is what I have it hooked up to currently) and play back. My best guess is without having to go through similar step as I mentioned above, you would only be able to watch the recorded program on the computer. The card does not have a video out.
It does a great job of recording though. I recommend the card. I cannot speak about any other cards...
