Without personal knowledge, judging just by what I've read: Forget it. Possibly if you had a DVD+R burner.
The experience I have with PS2 is that it's not that trivial to make it play even a bought DVD. (Depending on version)

  4. Sounds like it to me. PS2's are quirky like that. Even modded ones I don't think would play vcd or svcd's.

Yes, DVD-R or DVD+R can be read by all PS2 versions, DVD+RW by later models. Don't know about DVD-RW tho...

  7. Well first, it is my understanding that you can play cd-r's on the playstation 2 which means you could convert your files to VCD compatible mpeg1 with TmpegEnc and then burn the VCD with Nero or another program.

    I would suggest reading this:

    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=445&Search=Search&#comments

I would then look at the guides on this site as to how to convert your existing files, i.e. avi, wmv, or whatever to vcd.

    Hope this helps!

That the PS2 can read CD-R does unfortunately not imply that it can play a VCD.

My PS2 will NOT play VCD's and only plays DVD's backed up to DVD-R as well as any original DVD.

I think without a DVD burner (preferably -R) or without buying the original DVD, you might have some problems...

    Check this post out:
    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?dvdmediasearch=&dvdmediadvdridsearch=&search=Sear...hdvdplayer=445

Of the 38 posts that say burnt DVD's work on PS2, 32 of them are DVD-R. Now while this is not a scientific measurement or in no way conslusive evidence, it just gives you an idea of what other users have found worked on the PS2...
    Use what works for you...
