  1. Apologies if this is one of those questions asked again and again ( I did search, honest ! )

When I capture Video in Virtual Dub should I be hearing the sound ?
It's actually capturing the sound fine, the audio info moves on the rh side of the screen, and when I play the file back it's all there, clear as day.

but I can't hear it when I capture. Is there a monitor option somewhere ?

Using a Sapphire All in wonder 9000pro and a Hercules fortissimo sound card.

    Any suggestions ?

    Thanks,

I'm not sure about your capture card but it sounds like a problem I first had with my "AverTV Studio" Card. The card has a plug going from my tuner (sound out) to the LINE-IN jack of my sound card. I followed the following instruction on fixing the problem. Hope it helps.

    ##### From AverMedia #####

If you have already set up your video capture sequence to use audio, but there is STILL no sound in the capture, then most likely you have not successfully configured the LINE-IN jack on your sound card as the proper source for RECORDING, although for PLAYBACK it works normally.

To do this, you need to run Windows Volume Control. Either you can double-click on the little yellow speaker volume icon in the system tray by the clock, or you can find the Volume Control program in the Programs menu under Accessories\Entertainment.

When Volume Control appears, go to Options on the menu, and select Properties.

Now you place a button in the empty checkbox next to RECORDING.

In the list below that says "Show the following volume controls", make sure there is a check in the check box for Line-IN and hit OK.

Now, all of the RECORDING level sliders will appear, and you can now place a check in the SELECT box underneath Line-IN, and NOW you should properly capture audio in your video capture sequences.

  3. Thanks for that L,

I know what you're saying there but my problem is subtly different to the common 'No audio being captured' question that comes up alot.

I *am* capturing Audio through the Line In, it's just that during the capture process itself I'm not hearing any sound. When I play back the capture it's all there, so I guess I should be able to hear it as I capture, non ?

I'm thinking there's some kind of monitor switch somewhere to kick in ?

  4. Have it now, the Mixer on the Hercules Fortissimo soundcard had the line in volume at zero - audio was being captured OK via the Recording line in, hence that working.

    adios,
