  1. im tryin to cut an avi dvd ripp using virtualdub, when i open viedofile this is the message i am getting.
    couldnt locate decompressor for format"DIVX"(OPENDIVX)
virtualdub requiers a video for windows (VFW) compatiable codec to decompress video. direct show codecs, such as those used by windows media player are not suitable.

ok thats the error..this is the 1st time im ever had an error opening a video in vurtualdub...any suggestions how i can cut this avi?

When you download The Nimo Codec Package, did you install all the DivX codecs or did you just install a few???

You're sure missing a codec. OpenDivX and DivX are not the same. Take a look here. This is in no way related to the AVI being a DVD rip.
This said, please beware of Nimo codec packs - IMHO they break more than they fix. If a specific AVI won't load, check it out with GSpot, that will tell you what codecs are used, and if you have them or not. If not, then install only the needed codec and nothing else.

  7. ok i opened up the avi file in gspot and heres what it says under VIDEO format..codec is installed...under audio..codec is installed..status..file rendered successfully,no errors reported.

i can watch the avi,it plays back fine...the problem is i need to cut it in half, and i cant...i get that error when tryin to open the avi in virtualdub.

do i need to download opendivx?
and do i need both of these files? or just the install exe file?
    OpenDivX Binaries
    OpenDivX Install File (*.exe)

The .exe installer sounds like the easiest way to get it installed.
