  1. I have the DRU-500A with firmware 1.0g. I've witten a nice stack of DVD's but now I've gotten two write errors in a row, is 1.0g a version with known problems or something?

Moderators, this probably isn't in the right forum, if not, please move it. I tried to find the best place but this is it. Thanks.

  2. More info. Please.. System configuration. Media used. Burning program/s Burning Engine etc..? Have you changed anything lately?ex. burning speed, software. First off go back to a movie you know has worked for you in the past and see if that works and if not there is definetley a problem.

  3. Ah, sorry about that. Windows XP Pro. Using imation DVD-R media in Nero 5.5.10.0. I haven't really changed anything, except maybe the firmware, I upgraded it to 1.0f because I've read about speed improvements in the firmware, so hopefully I could get faster write speeds. The first two attempts were at 2x, but the latest try I used 1x and it still faults. It just says "Write error" and asks me if I want to save the log.

  5. But no software authoring or burning problems here.

I guess you wouldn't classify my problem as a burning problem?

Yes, upgrading Nero is worth a try. An upgrade to V 5.5.10.7 fixed all my Sony DRU 500A (firmware 1.0f) burn problems. I use Ritek media.

I've had problems getting a successful DVD burn using Nero with my DRU-500a. CD-Rs work but not DVD+/-RW. I used RecordMax for all my DVD burns now. Just a suggestion, try burning a movie that's recently failed with Nero but this time use RecordMax and see if that works. I'd suggest burning to DVD+RW, or DVD-RW, to save discs. If that works try the same burn again except use Nero. Basicly, I've given up on Nero with the DRU-500a and burning DVDs.

  10. I did get the DVD to record (on a DVD-R) successfully without any problems, I think it used single speed though. I looked through my stacks of written DVD's, and here are the statistics.

Total discs attempted (success and failure): 20

    DVD-R: 9 total, 6 failed writing
    DVD+R: 11 total, 0 failed writing

(all media listed above is imation media)

I guess my drive favors DVD+R and I presume +RW media. Just something to think about.
Thanks for the suggestion about RecordNow MAX, rkr1958.
