  1. I have 2 different files, both encoded with xvid and mpeg layer-3 audio.

After playing around with several different versions of VDub to extract the audio (ac3 support, mpeg-2, etc.), I finally managed to save the sound into an uncompressed wav file, although I had to use a different version of the program for each.

Now, when I try to encode the xvid and extracted audio in TMPEG to create a mpg, the audio and video are out of sync. Was there a problem with the audio extraction, or do I need to do something else to ensure the audio and video are in sync when I convert?

These xvids have been giving me a really tough time. Help would be greatly appreciated, as always.

  2. You shouldn't have to extract the audio when using Tmpgenc, it should accept the AVI with MP3 audio with no problems...

  3. You're right. The conversion using the avi's audio produced an audio and video stream that were perfectly in sync. I'm accustomed to extracting the audio into uncompressed wav because most of the guides on this site, including the first tutorial I ever read here either encourage you to use a seperate audio source when converting or have a picture showing a wav audio source. Is there any benefit to using extracted audio over the avi audio?

  4. Most people think that Tmpgenc's audio encoder isn't up to scratch, personally i think its OK. Personal preference really.
