    ive been trying to encode a xvid with cce but when i hit encode it get this erro read only 8 bits while exspecying 12 bits
    any 1 have any ideas wot this means

    What does the manual say?

    You can use virtualdub to convert to another AVI format - that might encode better. It might also be the file has AC3 audio & will need audio conversion or convert the video only, strip the audio & remux.
