www.vcdeasy.org . A lot of users reports problems with nero burned svcds but it works when they use vcdeasy. Any video quality differences are there not...only compatibility.

Yeah, VCDEasy fixes a lot of SVCD-creation problems from Nero. :P

Nero SVCD authoring seems to be not-quite-compliant. I've authored SVCDs with it and they worked fine, but at the same time I've seen enough complaints of exactly this type to know that it doesn't always work.

I would suggest just using vcdeasy to create the bin/cue image and burning the image with Nero. You'll probably have fewer problems in general if you do that, and it'll save the time and trouble of tracking down which particular problem you're having burning with vcdeasy+cdrdao.

  8. What is the problem with NERO ? I have some SVCD's that I burned using NERO at 4X speed. They all have a one page menu and 5 - 10 Tracks ( encoded with TMPGEnc) and are burned on the same media. I just purchased a new JVC xv-s300 and some of the SVCD's show the menu and others don't. Is this the kind of problem that NERO is known for ?
All these menu's worked on my old samsung S221, But I have had problems in the past with this unit and some other menus. I could never do a multi page menu with NERO.

I only use Nero when menu is pure text, but never had problem with its authoring function. Yup! VCDEasy works great specially when multiple menu is needed, it is very flexible. One great proggy also is the UleadVS6 DVD Plug-in. This one makes simple navigational menu with built-in background to choose from.

Last night I took one of the SVCD's that didn't display the menu and I took the menu off of the SVCD, converted it back to a JPEG ( that took me some time to figure out) and then let VCDEasy convert it back to a MPEG still. I then used VCDEasy to make a new SVCD ( I still had the original MPEG tracks in my hard drive). AND IT WORKED

  12. So am I reading this post right or are you guys saying that VCDEASY will also encode avi files to mpeg as well as burn them. Someone stated in this post that they used it to created bin/cue files. I think that means that they are converting the image to mpeg.

It will convert JPEG's to MPEG stills but you will need TMPGEnc ( or some other encoder) to convert the AVI's. Then it will create the bin/cue.

VCDEasy is a VCD/SVCD authoring program. It does NOT do encoding. You need TMPGEnc or CCE or MainConcept or ... for that. The whole process is really quite simple.

    1) Encode to mpg with your favorite encoder

    2) Use VCDEasy to author (S)VCD using the mpg file(s) from 1. Make sure CDRDAO integration is disabled. From this you will get a bin/cue pair of files.

    3) In Nero, select "Burn Image" from the file menu and select the cue file.

    That's it!

  16. I changed the Pause in Nero to 0 but it is still pause for 5 seconds between each mpeg on SVCD. I don't know what I did wrong.

  17. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned DVD2SVCD. It makes superior SVCDs compared to VCDEasy, IMHO. You can download it at dvd2svcd.org. You'll have to get a separate encoder, TMPGen or CinemaCraft Encoder to use in conjunction with it, but that's no big deal. What I like about DVD2SVCD is that with one click of the mouse, you go from DVD extraction or AVI to SVCD including the creation of BinCue files for the number of discs you'll need to burn. It's all figured out for you, so you don't have to sit at the computer waiting for one process to end so you can load files into the next application. You can also recover from a crash or from quitting the process without any trouble. The downside of this software package is that the encoding takes a long, long time, so you will have to be committed to leaving your computer going for hours and hours. I usually begin the process at night before going to bed and when I come home from work the next day the Bin/Cues are all ready to burn!
