  1. I read http://www.vcdhelp.com/nerosvcd.htm and it says to use and download nero 5.5 which I did but my screens look nothing like that. When I hit new it always runs the wizard which doesnt have an option for burning an SVCD. In the helpfile it just says 'run the wizard and choose SVCD', which doesn't exist.

    Can anyone help me? =\

  2. Well I figured it out, you have to actually hit the 'close wizard' button to get the real options. That wizard is retarted =P

Anyway got another question. When I have a .bin and .cue and tell Nero to burn from the .cue it always doubles the mpeg. Like I have a 600 meg .bin (600 meg movie) and it'll say it's 1200 megs (which obviously can't fit on a disk). All the cue's i've used have had both Track 1 and Track 2.

    They look like this:

    FILE "CAD1.bin" BINARY
    TRACK 01 MODE2/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
    TRACK 02 MODE2/2352
    INDEX 01 00:06:00

If i extract it using vcdgear 2.0 it gives me a normal mpeg about the size of the bin. But nero always claims it's twice the size.

Do I need to delete one of these tracks (in the cue)? or is there something wrong with nero.

Man don't take this the wrong way, but why in hell are you using Nero to Burn CUE/BIN file's.

Go download the demo of the best overburing software there is CDRwin from http://www.goldenhawk.com, you'll be restricted to 1x speed recording unless you get a keygen and use that to burn CUE/BIN files

Also download the newest VCDImager for future mpegs, use that to convert them into CUE/BIN files and burn with CDRwin.

  4. zalk,

I don't know why Nero thinks that there is double the size, but you cannot just go deleting tracks in the cuesheet. You need BOTH tracks.

All VCDs (with at least one video sequence item) will have at a minimum of 2 CD tracks. The first track contains logical data (e.g., entrypoint times, CD-i app., other things) and the real video tracks start from track 2 onwards.

And, as for burning CUE/BIN type images with Nero, I concur with marvel2020. Nero doesn't burn CUE/BIN images properly, and the VCDs you burn with it may not turn out properly either (especially if you authored some interactive content with VCDImager).

I strongly suggest that you get CDR-Win, Fireburner or CDRDAO. There are a few other proggies that can burn CUE/BIN images properly too.

Just curious (since this seems similar to a problem I'm having)...

Doesn't NERO burn .bin files just fine, but not .cue?

The reason I ask is I have made a previous SVCD (off-spec) disc, using VCDImagerEasy. It just barely worked, but FF/RW worked, it did auto-play (when my VCDs made using it didn't) so I was happy.

In the working case, I burned the .bin file, NOT the .cue. In fact, 98% of the time I can't open a .cue file with NERO.

Well, this last time, I burned another SVCD with NERO, but this time pened and used the ".cue". It just spun and spun inside my Apex, so I assume that didn't work! So maybe the problem is only with .cue files?

Tried doing this but when I started the process, I received a message saying I had to purchase the MPEG2 plug-in from Nero first. I went to the website, and although it said that the plug-in should have been available in August, I could find no links for the download. Please help??? Thanks!

The cue file and the bin file come as a pair. The bin file contains the raw data and the cue file describes where all the bits go (e.g., where tracks start and so forth).

Nero doesn't parse the cue file correctly and can lead to big problems.

It may not matter much if you aren't using PBC (menus, non-sequential items, etc.), but if you are, the (S)VCD no longer works properly.

I strongly suggest that you burn CUE/BIN images with CDR-Win, Fireburner or CDRDAO.

So is this why perhaps my SVCD's, VCD's made with a .bin image don't auto-play, except under certain conditions?

I noted last night (after 5 coasters), that in order to have a working SVCD, made with VCDImagerEasy, I had to turn off compliancy, have VCDImager make the scan offsets for me instead of bbMPEG, AND (most improtantly) I could not use the PBC functions.

With PBC checked in VCDImagerEasy, then burning the .bin (not cue) using NERO, I had to force my Apex 500W to play the movie, by pressing a series of buttons first, instead of "Play".

Without PBC checked, I could burn the bin with NERO, and it does work, but no GOTO or chapters. And it auto-plays properly.

So I have to use the "cue" file to enable things like chapter points, or menus? Maybe I should seek out WinOnCD...
