  1. frist of all Im tyring to open some files i have recorded off a digital camera.. they are in avi format. when i try open them with virtual dub i get the following message

Warning: type-1 DV file detected. Type-1 DV files have video and audio combined in the one stream, and virtual dub cannot currently extract the audio.

So i have been using MGI video wave 4 to edit the files etc but it never gets the file size as small as a divx encoding can..

    Herein lies the question

    A. Can you convert a type-1 dv file to a standard (whatever that is) Avi the virtualdub will open?

or B. Is there another program I could use that will aloow divx compression?

    cheers in advance

If the file you have can be played by win media player, then you should look into avisynth.Read the guides and avisynth might be your solution

  5. Try using this Type 1DV to Type 2DV converter free from Ulead. Then Vdub will accept it.
