I just started trying to burn DVDr’s. I have a pioneer DVR-104 for burning, and a Toshiba sd-3750 for playback. I use virtualdub, TMPGenc (sharware version), and Ulead DVD workshop (full). My movies always have great video, the audio is in sync with the movie, the problem is the audio goes out every ten seconds or so for a split second. I guess that ias what you guys refer to as stuttering. Here is my method
1. Save the wav from the divx movie using virtualdub
2. Open TMPGenc and select NTSC and I have tried CBR 3000k and CBR 4000k
3. I then point the video to my movie and audio to my newly created .wav
4. I select non-interlace and I have tried both 1:1 VGA, and the 720x480 aspect ratio
5. I then go to other setting and tell it to keep aspect ratio (full screen)
6. I then change my bitrate so that my movie is no larger than 3.7gig (was told not to go above)
7. Point my output file where to go.
8. Open Ulead and there isn’t much I do here.
9. I simply import my newly created mpeg movie
10. Drag it into the First play box, then I select burn to DVD, use underbuffer run protection, and I think that’s it.
11. Burn it
Do you see what I am doing wrong? I have tried three different movies, and they all have the same results. Is there a step I am skipping? I have created at least ten coasters, and I have read a ton of this website before coming here begging for help. Can you help me? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

It seems like this could be caused by your step #6- why limit your bitrate to not exceed 3.7 gigs? (who told you that and why?)
This should only be a factor is you are using super super crappy media.
I would try again, increasing the bitrate as much as you can while still getting your movie on the disc.
See if that helps. -

Like I said about the super super crappy media, quality decreases as the disc is burned toward the edges. Most media (and any worth buying) will be finely burned all the way to the edges with no problem (when a disc is burned, it begins at the middle around the "hole" and expands outward as it fills). So fill that disc up!

Yes, crappy media can do that - even CDR's... *cough* memorex *cough*... What I'm saying is the actual format is what it is supposed to be. Your post, while being right, wasn't as clear as your last point, and now I understand what you said before. Yet we're not stupid, and we know it goes from the inside out...

Crahak- I apologize- I wasn't saying you are stupid or anything! My comments were for Jasmill; I was just trying to share some things that I had found helpful. Until a little while ago I had no idea about the way a disc burned, or that the edges of cheap meadia could be bad. It was a newbie post so I wanted to help out as much as I could with what little I know. Anyways, sorry! No offense meant!

That still didn't work. I made the movie the largest I could in TMPGenc, and it still stutters. The media i use specifically states that it is compatible with my DVD burner, so I don't think it is my media. I am at a loss here.
Has anyone ever had this problem or know of a solution to it? -
Are you changing formats, ie converting pal to ntsc, or vice versa
