Can['t find the compatible combo as to which of the x264 compression choices on the video compr. drop down list to use and which audio compression choice? And when saving video, which is the correct option in the "type" drop-down list underneath the "Name" field. Also, I read somewhere that giving the video a new name is necessary for saving it with VD2. True? I have both 64bit and 32 bit VD2 versons but would prefer to use 64bit.

No need to rename if you're changing extension eg AVI to MP4.

Added:
If you try to Save a file that already exists eg AVI to AVI, you'll get a prompt.

If you do a second capture using the same filenane, you won't get a prompt and the original capture will be overwritten.

THANK YOU, Alwyn. Exactly what I need. I'll be using this guide quite a lot, no doubt. In all the many Google searches on this and other VDub "how to" subjects, I don't think any results linked to your guide, though many were links to topics in this Forum. Shame, since it could've saved me lots of frustration and do the same for others. Thanks again.

Yes, it is all too easy to lose your previous/precious captured file. I know from experience.
Always enable the "Autoincrement filename" option in VirtualDub to prevent these accidents.
