  1. Hi, I'm using the Gembird USB Videograbber (Chipset: UTV007) and VirtualDub2 to digitize a HI8 cassette through a Sony CCD-TR713E camera. Most of the digitized material is in black and white with purple and green horizontal stripes. Sometimes, there are a few frames in normal color. Sometimes, entire episodes that were filmed later are also in normal color. Sometimes, the black and white parts alternate with the color parts at a specific pace until everything becomes black and white... Please tell me what the problem might be and how it can be solved. It's really frustrating to see this black-and-white-purple-and-green sh**

  2. Good DVD recorder with pass-through capability has a good chance to fix it.

I've seen a few Gembird devices. I've never seen anything so rubbish. Start by replacing them with something decent.

Failing capacitors in the camcorder? How does it look when connected to the A/V input of a TV?

Also note that many EasyCrap-type devices have a fake S-Video input. It just shorts together the luma and chroma, resulting in a worse image than using composite.
