black and white image with horizontal purple and green stripes

Hi, I'm using the Gembird USB Videograbber (Chipset: UTV007) and VirtualDub2 to digitize a HI8 cassette through a Sony CCD-TR713E camera. Most of the digitized material is in black and white with purple and green horizontal stripes. Sometimes, there are a few frames in normal color. Sometimes, entire episodes that were filmed later are also in normal color. Sometimes, the black and white parts alternate with the color parts at a specific pace until everything becomes black and white... Please tell me what the problem might be and how it can be solved. It's really frustrating to see this black-and-white-purple-and-green sh**

Good DVD recorder with pass-through capability has a good chance to fix it.
I use Sony. It really helps in many ways...

I've seen a few Gembird devices. I've never seen anything so rubbish. Start by replacing them with something decent.

Set the right TV color standard in the capture app.

Failing capacitors in the camcorder? How does it look when connected to the A/V input of a TV?

Also note that many EasyCrap-type devices have a fake S-Video input. It just shorts together the luma and chroma, resulting in a worse image than using composite.
